A Guide to Medal and Ribbon Colors by a Miami Awards Store

If this is your first time shopping for medals or ribbons for an upcoming competition, you may be wondering what guidelines you should be following. Below, Awards Trophy World has provided you with a guide to help build a foundational knowledge of medal and ribbon colors before you start making your selections.

As an awards store in Miami, we are often asked what colors should be considered for competitions, and our answer is simple: stick with tradition. The Olympics has set universal precedence for medals presented since the first presentation of medals at the games in 1904. First place winners are traditionally awarded gold, while second and third places are silver and bronze, respectively. Each medal is awarded based on the rarity of the material itself, gold being the rarest, and so on.

While medal colors are universally accepted, ribbon colors are not. The United States does have a set tradition for ribbon colors that should be followed for U.S. competitors. It is also important to note that there are no medal colors for 4th place and below. The traditional U.S. ribbon color for 4th place is yellow, with fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth being green, pink, purple, brown, grey, and light blue, respectively.

We hope this guide helps lighten the pressure of making your first medal or ribbon choice. We know finding the right award for your competition is essential to encourage competitors. Here at Awards Trophy World, we are here to help anytime you need it, ensuring you select the perfect custom medal or ribbon for your event.
